Olsenboye

For some time now, designers have been teaming up with conventional department stores like Target, H&M and now JCPenney. This time it's Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen who've hoped on the bandwagon; with their line Olsenboye for JCPenney. The Olsen's Norwegian las name gave the inspiration for the name of the line and New York City girls were the idea behind this debut collection. The line definitely has a very young feel but does include some fun and ageless pieces for all.

Most of the tops are very logo and graphic/text filled which screams 12 year old, but this denim jacket & blazer are very nice and versatile to pair with a high-waisted skirt and t-shirt or a little sun dress for a street chic look:

$29.99
$24.99
This tunic can be found in red and in blue, and can be paired with leggings, light wash denim jeans or shorts for a fresh spring look:
$24.99
You will also find incredible shoes and bags designed by Steve Madden, like this combat boot that will become your dresses and skirt's best friend on those rainy spring days:

$49.99

Overall the line is pretty well executed, at a price that you can't complain about so grab a couple of these pieces to add some young girl fun to your spring wardrobe. Olsenboye can be found at select JCPenney stores and on JCPenney.com .

*McQueen with close friend, Lady GaGa

One of the greatest design talents of our time was found dead in his London home today, February 11th, 2010. McQueen's mother passed on February 2nd which could have triggered his hanging. It goes without saying that this is a great loss to the world of fashion, and many fans took to twitter to express the mourning of this terrible loss:

katyperry: Rest In Peace Alexander McQueen. Just woke up, so sad. ☹

tyrabanks: RIP Alexander McQueen. so so sad. such a huge loss. He was one of my favorite designers. He will be missed.

rzrachelzoe: I cant describe the tragic loss of such a brilliant man and designer Alexander McQueen..R.I.P xoRZ

xoBetseyJohnson: RIP McQueen... you will be truly missed

McQueen's family is asking for privacy from the media and have released this statement on the designer's website:

"ON BEHALF OF LEE MCQUEEN'S FAMILY, ALEXANDER MCQUEEN TODAY ANNOUNCES THE TRAGIC NEWS THAT LEE MCQUEEN, THE FOUNDER AND DESIGNER OF THE ALEXANDER MCQUEEN BRAND HAS BEEN FOUND DEAD AT HIS HOME. AT THIS STAGE IT IS INAPPROPRIATE TO COMMENT ON THIS TRAGIC NEWS BEYOND SAYING THAT WE ARE DEVASTATED AND ARE SHARING A SENSE OF SHOCK AND GRIEF WITH LEE'S FAMILY.

LEE'S FAMILY HAS ASKED FOR PRIVACY IN ORDER TO COME TO TERMS WITH THIS TERRIBLE NEWS AND WE HOPE THE MEDIA WILL RESPECT THIS."

Newspapers and magazines have begun to give tribute to the gothic genius, and here's a link to Life's magazine slideshow Remembering Alexander McQueen. Nontheless, RIP Sir.

Blue Tango

As Fall fades and Spring well uh...springs, so do new trends. The SS10 collections have shown many prevalent trends such as white slates, brights and digital prints for this upcoming Spring season. One of the most amusing trends that I spotted in the collections was the bold incorporation of denim. The fabric appeared in shirt, dress, and outerwear form on the runway and it should definitely make an entrance to your closet this spring.

D&G by Dolce & Gabbana SS10

The key to making a statement with denim is to mix the washes, if you don't you might look like you're wearing overalls.
D&G FOR LESS
With this look I picked a D&G dress from their Spring collection and found a comparable and affordable alternative (Oasis, $17).Tan leather compliments blue denim very well, so try a braid belt for a chic-er look and to contrast and define your waistline. For those cooler days try on an over-sized cardigan (Miss Selfridge, $44)and wrap with the belt around for a different look. A brown sandal (American Eagle, $30) or wedge (Asos, $65) can also add intensity to your look. Accesorize your outfit with floral headbands or jewelry for that spring feel.

For a different look you can simply swap out the dress for a denim skirt and a white shirt or tee. And fortunately for you, Urban Outfitters (left) has once again stolen a design and this time it was this skirt from Stella McCartney's SS10 collection(right).

Other more commercial designers have also picked up on this trend, like Guess by Marciano in this 2010 advertisment.

The following look was somewhat inspired by the Guess ads for their SS10 collection. So, another way to wear denim this spring is by adding a vest to your closet. Vests can help you beat the chill without too much coverage as well as adding a cowboy-ish touch to your outfit. Try it with a simple black tank (H&M), white denim for the bottoms (delias, $35) and a black bootie (Zappos) or sandal (H&M) to show off a effortless but street chic look. Feel free to play around with dark and light washes of denim, and don't forget your tan leather bag (H&M)!
